Mink were originally imported from North America
in the 1920's, during which time many have escaped
the fur farms or were ignorantly released by animal rights
activists causing havoc throughout most areas of the UK.
They are capable of wreaking serious damage to the
ecological balance, as well as causing commercial loss
to those rearing domestic stock or fish.
Mink are mainly nocturnal and usually live near water,
they prefer areas of thick bankside vegetation.
HUNTING THE MINK
Where a landowner, game/river keeper or farmer has
requested the Mink Hounds to attend, the hounds are taken
to locate an area where the overnight scent trail is.
From here the minks scent is hunted until the mink is located
and killed instantly - in the same way a terrier will dispatch
a common rat. Hounds draw a piece of river once or twice
a season so disturbance is kept to the minimal.
